Energy

It’s time to pull our heads out of the sand and build for the future rather than protect the past. Times change, new technology emerges, we become aware of the collateral damage caused by our best thinking, and we need to adopt better ways to move on.

It’s time to stop subsidizing fossil fuels, directly and indirectly. Direct subsidies include direct financial payments and tax credits. Indirect subsidies include allowing polluting companies to move on and leave their environmental chaos for taxpayers and local residents to deal with and pay for.

We need to embrace more renewable energy. We need to invest in a national power grid, much like we have with our interstate highways.

I don’t believe nuclear power is the answer, it’s terribly expensive and without government subsidy it’s completely impractical.

I suspect there are answers yet to be discovered, which means we need to keep looking for better ways. This will involve the government in research, supporting new, budding industries, and providing regulatory oversight where needed.
